George Fox was born in England in 1624. Even as a youth, he
seemed to seek in solitude for spiritual satisfaction. Sometimes
he spent time with his Bible in lonesome places. He relates in
his journal that when hope seemed gone, he found there was one,
even Christ Jesus, who could help. He related, "My heart did
leap for joy." Soon he began a public ministry leading many to
find the One he had found who could bring hope, light, and joy to
every one. God would dwell in human hearts. He soon had workers
to go with him, or to travel by themselves. Fox traveled to
Ireland, the American colonies, Barbados, Jamaica, Holland,
Germany. When he died in 1691, four thousand filled the meeting
house, court and passage to give testimony to his memory. His
vision of Christ and His Gospel does live on.
